Forensic Architecture and Forensis are presenting their investigation Racist Terror Attack in Hanau: The Arena Bar (2021), reconstructing the events which took place in the Arena Bar, where nine people were murdered.

The concatenated effects of the pandemic have limited people’s spatial radius over the past few years, and have changed not only how we use places and spaces, but also how we perceive them. The exhibition seeks to present, through artistic positions, various ways of capturing, imagining and representing rooms, houses, courtyards and squares.

When artists deal with places and spaces, they do so with the intention of ordering the respective environment, locating and orienting themselves in the world, tracking down changes, reconstructing the past, making the invisible visible. Artistic examination of places and spaces can also be a critical reflection of concrete political events, reconstruction, processing, accusation.

As different as the approaches and the media of the artists involved and their respective implementation are, they open up a spectrum of possibilities to deal with places and spaces as well as with the relationship between people and space; they capture emotional-sensual dimensions and make them visible in ways that lie beyond the physical and material aspects of architectural spaces.
