Forensic Architecture will be contributing its iterative project Cloud Studies and a selection of investigations that inform it to Breathing at the Hamburger Kunsthalle.
Breathing is life. What may on the surface seem like an unconscious biological process in fact has diverse social and political implications. The exhibition uncovers the many different facets of breathing and its representation in the art of the Old Masters and the present day. The result is an unconventional and intriguing dialogue on an existential topic: from breath as a central biblical metaphor and an expression of our relationship to the world, to air pollution and respiratory illnesses, all the way to the Black Lives Matter movement (»I can’t breathe«).
