Spazio Murat Bari, BiArch - Bari International Archifestival 2021

Date

01 Sep 2021 - 25 Sep 2021

Exhibition Type

Solo

An exhibition of 4 Forensic Architecture surveys – for the first time in Southern Italy – will inaugurate the autumn season at Spazio Murat. The exhibition, which will be held from 1 to 25 September will be part of the circuit of events and exhibitions within Biarch 2021, the architecture festival to be held in Bari from 3 to 20 September and whose theme this year will be Margins, Borders, Borders.

The selection of Forensic Architecture investigations presented in the exhibition focuses on the regions bordering the increasingly militarized Mediterranean basin: four cases linked to colonial exclusion, state crimes and racial violence that occur in liminal territories – four coordinates in the force field of geopolitical dynamics: Melilla (Spain); the delta of the Evros / Meriç river (Greece / Turkey); the occupied Gaza Strip (Palestine); and the Mediterranean Sea.

With this exhibition we intend to continue to exhibit at Spazio Murat not only the variability of life forms, but also the possibilities offered by social cooperation, so that the knowledge of these experiences leads to their conscious use and to the always potential redefinition of the horizons of our life.

It often happens that some crucial elements of direct testimony remain hidden in the memory lapses. While it is true that stories and narratives of trauma and experiences of violence are often built around such gaps, it is also true that it is precisely in these gaps that resistance and political action must be sought.

Forensic Architecture – Verification practices is carried out within BiArch, the winning project of the “Festival dell’Architettura” competition, promoted by the Directorate General for Contemporary Creativity of the Ministry of Culture.
