Making Truth

22 Nov 2019, 3:00 pm - 9:30 pm

Atelierhaus der Akademie der bildenden Künste, Vienna

The MAKING TRUTH line-up concludes VIENNA ART WEEK. The focus is on socio-politically active artists as well as the work of activist groups, who have contributed in recent years with their projects to uncover social ills and to stimulate broad discussion. Their artistic commitment measures the pulse of time and, ideally, can help make the world a little truer as well as a little better. The varied series of talks and discussions culminate in a performance created especially for the VIENNA ART WEEK, which thematises the search for truth in the context of dealing with the past. The line-up includes FA’s Manager, Sarah Nankivell, who will introduce FA’s practice and methodologies, focusing on evidence production as a social and political process of verification, which works across different types of institutions, knowledges, and perspectives. In particular, as FA’s work has increasingly come to engage and intersect with a range of cultural and artistic spaces, this talk will address the aesthetic dimensions of knowledge production and how FA uses cultural, as well as legal, political, and media forums, as a means of open and engaged dissemination of investigative practices.
