HALLE 14, Leipzig, Germany

On the 16th of September 2017, at 15.00, the new exhibition will be opening for the SpinnereiGalerien. The exhibition hall is transformed into a public laboratory, where not only works of art but also exemplary projects from the art world are presented.

More than 14 years have passed since the international kick-off symposium “How architecture can think socially”, which formulated the claim of the revitalization of HALL 14 on the industrial site of the spinning mill. What began in 2002 has been established with the support of countless art enthusiasts, private and public sponsors as a nonprofit arts center with changing international group exhibitions, art education program, events and a library. For this thoughtful and gradual revitalization process, HALLE 14 was awarded, among others, the Hieronymus Lotter Prize for Historic Preservation and a recognition of the Saxon State Prize for Building Culture.

In this step-by-step process, HALL 14 has always understood itself as a learning institution. Following this self-image, the Kunstzentrum will be transformed into a public laboratory with the forthcoming exhibition »Spaces Social Production – A Self-Location after 14 Years of the Art Center HALLE 14«. Along with questions on art, participation, digitization and architecture, HALLE 14 invites you to reflect on what we expect from an art center and contemporary art today. The process is open, the exhibition will change over time, the end is not certain yet.
