The concept of “living outside” is the central concept that this exhibition was conceived from. This exhibition brings together a series of works which revolve around discourses of security. In this context, security is the vector from which our forms of government and our forms of life are organised. The works in this exhibition challenge and probe the concept of security from three axes: the questioning of excess protection against the ‘other’; the possibility of going beyond such protection; and the need to protect ourselves, not so much from the ‘other’, but from the violence committed in the name of security.
However, asking these questions will not yield a solution to the current crisis of governmentality. We must instead explore the concept of “living outside”. The works in this exhibition ask us to imagine other ways of life which are not governed by fear or violence.
