The Other Architect , curated by Giovanna Borasi, chief curator of the Canadian Center for Architecture (CCA), shows how different design collectives from the sixties crossed the boundaries of traditional architectural practice. With them, critical and fundamental research became an immanent part of a new architectural practice on the basis of which the social role and responsibility of architects were increased. Collaborative strategies, new type of interventions and an experimental attitude form part of the striking instrumentarium of this architecture. The ingenuity of these designers shows the ability of architecture to give shape to a contemporary cultural agenda at a time; a lesson that remains highly relevant even today.
The exhibition was first shown in the CCA in 2015 and is accompanied by a publication, The Other Architect , edited by Giovanna Borasi, published by the CCA together with Spector Books and designed by Jonathan Hares. The exhibition in Rotterdam is also accompanied by a public program.
